Maastricht Jazz Collective
The Maastricht Jazz Collective is a vibrant ensemble born out of the Dutch academic jazz scene, redefining contemporary music through a unique cultural lens. At the heart of their sound lies a powerful fusion: the sophistication of modern jazz harmony meeting the raw, untamed Balkan spirit. Their repertoire is a celebration of rhythmic complexity and soulful storytelling where traditional Eastern European influences infuse fire into the structured arrangements of Nordic jazz. It is jazz with a “restless heart and a wandering soul”—a bridge between academic mastery and the visceral pulse of their roots.
The collective’s concert activity spans major European stages with a constant presence at festivals and jazz clubs across the Netherlands, Romania, and Belgium. Following their success at the Transylvania Jazz Festival (November 2025), the group continued their ascent in 2026: in February, they won the Grand Prize at the Maastricht Jazz Awards, followed by an exceptional tour in Bucharest. Their series of concerts at Urban Blues Fest #7 and iconic venues such as Green Hours and JazzBook was met with an enthusiastic reception, confirming the band’s magnetic stage presence. This impact was further solidified by significant media interest with interviews and an airplay on leading Romanian stations such as Radio România Muzical and Radio Cluj, enforcing their status as a rising power in contemporary jazz.

the modern urban atmosphere into a profound spiritual experience. With a heart beating to the rhythm of the Balkans and a mind shaped by Western jazz, the collective persists an essential voice in the European landscape today.
New Generation Quartet is a contemporary jazz quartet led by Estonian saxophonist and composer Paul Saumets. The quartet serves as a platform for original compositions and special concept projects, including the New Generation Quartet Plays Coltrane, celebrating the legacy of John Coltrane and other influential voices in modern jazz.
Drawing inspiration from modal jazz, spiritual jazz, and the deep expressive traditions of artists such as John Coltrane and McCoy Tyner, as well as the new creative generation of musicians, the ensemble creates music that balances strong improvisational interplay with emotional depth and collective energy.

Orchestravian is a 15-piece large ensemble led by Romanian composer and conductor Octavian Taborsky, playing modern jazz with electronic twists. Based in the Netherlands, the ensemble blends contemporary harmony with dynamic grooves and soundscapes, captivating audiences with bold textures, rhythmic complexity, and innovative instrument playing techniques. Interzone is a fusion band from Conservatorium Maastricht led by Yusuf Kohen. Drawing inspiration from jazz, fusion, and contemporary electronic music, the group showcases sound design and jazz vocabulary with fusion and funk elements.
